Ibrahim has a desire to see disabled persons
in Kenya increase their independence and visibility. Through his
experiences as a physically challenged person, he has learned the
importance of physical sports as a method of building fitness, character
and confidence. Ibrahim knows the power that sports can have to
disprove negative viewpoints of the physically challenged. For over
ten years, Ibrahim has traveled throughout Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda
speaking to groups in an effort to change public perceptions of
the physically challenged.
In 2003, he began training physically challenged
people in various activities including soccer, cycling, table tennis,
running and fitness exercises. Ibrahim has done this without any
outside funding but has made it his goal to raise money to open
a training center in Kenya that will meet various needs of the physically
challenged. The center will focus on the following goals.
- Increase confidence in the physically challenged
through sports and fitness.
- Provide education assistance and life skills
trainining.
- Promote needs awareness and equality for
the physically challenged.
